A Startup That Helps You Achieve Your Resolutions

January 30, 2014

A new year means it's likely you have set a goal for a healthier you- more walking, healthier eating. But sometimes that idea is a bit sexier than actually making it happen. Living healthy takes a lot of work. That's why Village startup, Healthyou, is gaining traction by partnering you and your tracking device with a personal digital coach. Learn more about Healthyou and it's founder Jane Curth below! What is Healthyou? healthyou improves users’ health by combining the power of an activity tracking device with expert evaluation. With data analysis, weekly feedback, and personal encouragement, users embark on a lifelong trajectory of healthy living.  As an online wellness coaching program, we produce results because we are your coach, personal trainer, and accountability partner. It works well because it can be done anytime and anywhere. Why did you start this startup?I started Healthyou because, with the current obesity epidemic in our country, it is essential for people to make necessary lifestyle changes. Obesity leads to heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Inactivity is a major contributor to the obesity rates. People are more successful when they have an accountability partner because they help you remain focused and "stay the course". My passion is helping people get healthier and that inspired me to start Healthyou and be an accountability partner. What were you doing before this startup? I was a tenured college professor in health, wellness, and physical education. I am also an ACE (American Council on Exercise) certified personal trainer. I created an online "fitness walking" college course that produced tremendous results in cardiorespiratory fitness. I was inspired to take this accountability and feedback model beyond academia and founded Healthyou.Who is your ideal customer? My ideal customer is someone desiring to make a lifestyle change, especially in physical activity. They have struggled in the past to stick with exercise and need the help of an accountability partner who can motivate, mentor, encourage, and inspire. However, we also work with devoted exercisers and can help them improve their cardio workout times and/or help them in other areas of wellness if they feel challenged. What traction do you have?Currently we have some physicians and chiropractors that are recommending us to their patients. They like that I am a college professor and have research that supports the model. I am also working with a couple of companies with their corporate wellness program. I hope to be able to hire a sales person soon. What do you love most about being in Atlanta Tech Village? The people! It is an awesome community, with everyone helping each other. Also, the networking opportunities are great!Words of wisdom from Jane:

The most important thing we have is our health. Therefore, it is imperative that we make necessary changes to live the highest quality of life possible. You will not only add years to your life, you will add life to your years!
